Background

The Center for Commemorative Culture was founded in late 2020 as a Central Institution of the University of Regensburg, the purpose of which is to operate within all faculties. It began its activities in the first half of 2021. At its core, the CCC emerged from the collaboration between the University of Regensburg and the Flossenbürg Concentration Camp Memorial. Within the university, the CCC is first and foremost connected thematically and methodically to the MA course “Public History and Culture”, which has been running since 2018, yet it also offers cooperative opportunities with other courses in the humanities, cultural studies, and the social sciences. This background alone reflects the close interleaving of academic and applied engagements with commemoration operating here, which will continue to distinguish the Center for Commemorative Culture in the future.
